Musical Friday: Mona Lisa

Dear friends,

I know not if you watched the movie "Mona Lisa Smile" before but I recommend it with all my heart! Mona Lisa Smile is a 2003 drama film produced by Revolution Studios and Columbia Pictures in association with Red Om Films Productions, directed by Mike Newell, written by Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal, and starring Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles and Maggie Gyllenhaal. The title is a reference to the Mona Lisa, the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci, and the song of the same name, originally performed by Nat King Cole, which was covered by Seal for the movie. Julia Roberts received a record $25 million for her performance—the highest ever earned by an actress.
"Mona Lisa" is a popular song written by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston for the Paramount Pictures film Captain Carey, U.S.A. (1950). The title and lyrics refer to the renaissance portrait Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1950. In the movie, the lead actress Julia Roberts, is said to have a Mona Lisa Smile - hence the song ;) and let us face it, she was WorldWide known for her priceless smile and being one of the America's Sweethearts. But what I need to underline is why I love this movie: I love this movie as it shows the changes in America, the way a free-thinking art teacher in the '50s could change the traditional rules and the society even if this cost her job and life. One must learn to speak loud and from ones heart, and make up their mind and not follow the crowd!

Mona Lisa - Seal - Mona Lisa Smile OST

Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa
Men have named you
You're so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only cause you're lonely
They have blamed you
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile

Do you smile to tempt a lover, Mona Lisa
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there, and they die there
Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art

(Repeat)

Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa

Yours truly,
A LadyBug That Appreciates This Movie As It Stands For Women Equal Rights :)
